Your Top 7 questions about NODI Flip, answered

Published on

Thank you for the questions you've sent in over the past couple of weeks. We've read every single one, and a few clear themes came up again and again. Here are the seven we hear most often, answered by Pascal in a short video, with the full details written up below.

1. How does Spotify work on the Flip, and can I filter what my child hears?

Adding Spotify content to the Flip is done via the parent app. Here's how it works in practice:

  • Open the Spotify app on your phone and connect to the Flip like you would any Bluetooth or Connect speaker.
  • Pick an album, playlist or podcast, and play it.
  • In the NODI app, tap the "+" to add that album, playlist or podcast to the Flip's list of content. That's the library your child can choose from.
  • You can re-order, rename or remove anything on that list at any time, straight from your phone.
  • Your child then uses the physical buttons on the Flip to pick from that library, skip through tracks, pause, and pick up where they left off. The Flip remembers.

This is the middle ground so many of you asked for: variety without surprises. Because you add the content, only what you've approved lands on the Flip. No Spotify Kids ceiling, no full-Spotify wild west.

It works with any Spotify account (Free or Premium) and requires an internet connection to stream the content (either Wi-Fi or LTE). We recommend Premium, mostly to avoid ads between tracks. And if you have multiple Flips for multiple children, each one can be paired with a different Spotify account, so siblings can listen simultaneously.

2. How do voice messages work?

The Flip isn't limited to sending messages between other Flips. Anyone with a smartphone can message your child through our free NODI app, whether they have a Flip themselves or not. That means grandparents, aunts and uncles, the other parent, a best friend's family: all reachable from the Flip, all without anyone else needing to buy a device.

Crucially, it doesn't work through WhatsApp, iMessage, or any open network. That's deliberate. Strangers can't contact your child, because only people you've personally invited can ever reach them.

Here's how you add someone like grandma:

  1. In the NODI app, you create an invitation code.
  2. You send the code to grandma however you like: text, WhatsApp, email.
  3. Grandma downloads the free NODI app and enters the code. That's it.

From that moment, your child can send grandma a voice message from the Flip in two button presses, and grandma can reply in two taps on her phone. Every message stays inside the closed NODI network. No phone numbers exchanged, no social feeds, no ads, no strangers.

You stay in control throughout. You can see every connected contact in your app, and remove anyone at any time.

On the Wi-Fi version, messaging works whenever the Flip is on Wi-Fi or a hotspot. On the Wi-Fi + LTE version, it works anywhere there's mobile signal: walking home from school, at the park, at a friend's house.

3. How do the parental controls work, and can my child bypass them?

All settings live in the parent app, not on the device, so they can't be bypassed by the kids. From the app you can:

  • Add new Wi-Fi networks (for holidays, hotspots, grandparents' houses)
  • Set night mode, when the Flip is fully switched off
  • Set an alarm clock
  • Set volume limits
  • Turn on voice guidance, so children who can't yet read (or see) can still navigate the menu by ear
  • Set the time zone
  • ...and more

4. Does it work offline and on holiday abroad?

Yes to both.

  • Offline: you can download offline content from our royalty-free audiobook library in advance, and the Flip works fully without a connection. Perfect for flights, long drives, or anywhere with patchy signal.
  • Abroad: the Wi-Fi version works on any Wi-Fi network worldwide. Our eSIM data plan covers the UK and EU out of the box. For the US, Canada and further afield, pop in a local nano-SIM.

5. What about headphones?

Both wired (USB-C) and Bluetooth headphones work. Bluetooth pairs through the device menu in seconds.

6. What does it actually cost?

The Flip itself (UK pre-sale prices):

  • NODI Flip Wi-Fi: £119 (RRP £149)
  • NODI Flip Wi-Fi + LTE: £149 (RRP £179)

Optional eSIM data plans for the Wi-Fi + LTE variant (UK & EU):

  • Monthly: £8.99/month
  • Annual: £5.99/month
  • 2-year: £3.99/month

A data plan is only needed if you want your child to use voice messaging and streaming away from Wi-Fi with LTE. And you don't need to go with our eSIM data plans; you can also use any other data plan via the nano-SIM card slot.

7. When can I order, and what do I get for waiting?

The UK pre-sale opens in April, and as a waiting list member, you'll be first in line. Every pre-order also comes with:

  • Lifetime warranty
  • Free UK delivery
  • 30-day satisfaction guarantee

Deliveries to UK families are expected in August 2026.

And one more thing: the friends & family discount

So many of you asked about ordering multiple Flips for siblings or friends that we've added a multi-Flip discount to the UK pre-sale:

  • £10 off per Flip when you order 2 or more in one pre-order (up to 5 Flips)
  • Stacks with the early-bird waiting list discount
  • Applied automatically at checkout, no code needed
